In 1953,
John Majhor, the
barefoot disc jockey, was born in San Bernardino, California. He spent 11 years at
CHUM Toronto, from 1975 to 1986, mostly hosting morning or evening drive. He began his career in 1974 as
Curt Martin at
KKLS Rapid City, South Dakota, then moved to
WAPE Jacksonville, Florida, before making it to CHUM. While still at CHUM he pioneered
VJ'ing at
CFMT-TV Toronto in 1983 on
Video Singles. From 1984 to 1986, he hosted
Toronto Rocks on
CITY-TV. He was also one of the original anchors on the
E! Network in the U.S. His other radio experience includes
KLAC Los Angeles (1988),
KCBS-FM Los Angeles (1989),
CJEZ Toronto (1990),
KSFQ Santa Fe, New Mexico (1999-2000) and
WCOO Charleston, South Carolina (2002-04). His barefoot moniker stuck because of his love of doing his shows with neither shoes nor socks. He died of cancer at age 53 on January 23, 2007, in Young America, Minnesota.
In 1975,

In 2001,
CICF-FM Vernon signed on as Sun-FM, in an AM to FM move to 105.7 MHz with 46,000 watts. The station began as
CKAL-AM on 1050 KHz on October 23, 1978, with 10,000 watts day and 1000 watts night. The call letters switched to CICF in 1987.
