Longtime CKWX Morning Guy Jim Fraser passes

Postby radiofan » Thu May 16, 2024 11:47 am

Sorry to hear that longtime CKWX Morning guy Jim Fraser passed away last night in the Sechelt Hospital..

Shawn Webster wrote on the RPM FB page ... I’m so sad to let everyone know that Jim Fraser passed away last night. Apparently he didn’t want a service, although his daughter Melanie may plan a gathering at her home in the coming weeks. He was a master on the mic from the big chair with the little wheels, the consummate bus driver of the WX morning team, and we had so much fun on the air! Happy Trails Jimmy… you are missed❤️

3 Jim Fraser 1980's airchecks from the RadioWest aircheck archives:

Jim Fraser CKWX Sept. 4, 1986

Jim Fraser CKWX Nov. 10, 1987

Jim Fraser CKWX Jan. 27, 1989

And a couple of early 1990's airchecks that have been featured as Radio West airchecks of the week ...

It's the Jim Fraser morning show from a Tuesday in late August of 1991 on Vancouver's Country 1130 CKWX -

David Tate has the news, weather and sports while Katie Rebak (Bennison) has the traffic from Chopper 1130.

RadioWest's sister site, BC Radio History, has a profile of Jim's radio career - https://bcradiohistory.com/Biographies/JimFraser1.htm

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last day of July 1992, a Friday morning, with Jim Fraser on Vancouver's Country 1130 CKWX in AM Stereo -

Jim is joined by RadioWest charter member, Campbell McCubbin, who reports the news and sports, and Katie Rebak describes the traffic and hours long lines at the ferry terminals.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I always had fun when Jim was in the building. We had more fun when out in the evening. :occasion5:

Rest easy, Jim. You finally get to sleep in.

I worked with Jim at CKAY in Duncan when he was first starting out. It was my second stint at CKAY.
I also worked with him at 'WX.
While in Duncan, Jim also got involved in musical theatre, appearing as Capt. Von Trapp in the Duncan Musical Club's production of The Sound Of Music.
Not many people knew that Jimmy could sing too!

Does anyone have a contact for Jim Fraser's family? A former radio colleague of mine just recently heard of Jim's passing and would like to contact family.
