For Immediate Release

CALGARY, January 9, 2023 – Today, Corus Radio has rebranded Q107 Calgary to QR Calgary: Talk on FM. This bold and exciting move will give listeners more engaging, informative content that matters to Calgarians.

From local news, weather, traffic to interviews with community experts and top local and regional political leaders, the well-informed and much-loved on-air personalities heard on 770 CHQR, will now also be heard on the FM dial.

“QR Calgary has been part of the radio landscape for more than five decades and its focus on the community has been a big part of its success,” said John Vos, Regional Program Director. “By bringing QR programming to the FM band at 107 FM, we look forward to reaching a new generation of news/talk listeners in Calgary and Western Canada.”

“At Corus Audio our strategy is to position our first-class content across all of our platforms – AM, FM, and podcast,” said Brad Phillips, Senior Vice President of Corus Audio. “We are excited about this unique opportunity in this dynamic market.”

The QR Calgary launch includes interviews with VIP and surprise guests, an extensive marketing campaign and the Crack the $10K QR Code contest, powered by Deerfoot Inn & Casino, where the station will give away $10,000 to one lucky listener.

In addition to AM and FM Radio, QR Calgary can be heard anywhere and anytime on the Radio Player Canada app, Tune-in Radio, the Curiouscast podcast network, Audio Vault, HD Radio in your vehicle, Shaw Direct, Telus TV and on Amazon Alexa (just say, “Alexa play QR Calgary”).

Expect to see more underperforming FM signals within the Corus stable to start simulcasting their sister AM news / talk stations. Maybe not in Toronto or Vancouver, but Edmonton, Winnipeg, London, etc, could all easily duplicate what's been done in Calgary.

From the Global Calgary website. I have no idea where they get these kids they call writers, but holy shit.

A new radio station will soon be hitting Calgary’s FM radio waves.

Really. Isn't it an existing AM station that has had the News-Talk branding for thirty plus years. What's so new about that?

QR Calgary, a Corus Entertainment radio station, is launching Monday morning and will be replacing the former classic rock station Q107 Calgary.

According to Corus, the station will have the same local news, weather, traffic and talk shows as its AM equivalent, 770 CHQR.

Hey guess what clever writer? It is the very same radio station, just being rebroadcasted on an FM frequency so of course everything is the same as it was on AM.

Enough of disecting that dumpster fire of a story.

Was the whole intent of getting an FM frequency a dream by the programming folks that they'd now be able to beat the CBC? I don't think it's that easy. The network crap in the evenings and overnight is killing all your stations.
I've heard a lot of bad radio over the years. Your offerings are the absolute worst. Bring back Coast To Coast and show The Three Stooges the door. The money you save there might get you a decent evening host.

One final note, the logo sucks. Was it designed by one of the Karz 4 Kids kids?
