
In 1965, CKXR-AM Salmon Arm signed on to 580 KHz with 1000 watts. It marked the birth of Hall-Gray Broadcasting, named after owners Bob Hall and Walter Gray, who had met at CKOV Kelowna. CKCR Revelstoke signed on three days later as a full-time satellite, totally simulcast, on 1340 KHz with 250 watts. Together, they were known as The Big R Network. CKGR Golden signed on in 1974.
In 1968, As It Happens debuted on the CBC AM network. Created by Mark Starowicz, it and Peter Gzowski's This Country in the Morning soon delivered CBC Radio measurable ratings in major markets, something unknown since TV became popular in the early 1950s.

In 1998, Okanagan Skeena Group Ltd. received CRTC approval to acquire Nornet Broadcasting Ltd. Less than a year later, Telemedia acquired Okanagan Skeena.
