Trooper released three hit singles in 1978: Round Round We Go, Raise A Little Hell (which charted on Billboard) and The Moment That It Takes. The first and third were sung by keyboardist Frank Ludwig. Raise A Little Hell, like all other Trooper singles in previous and future years was handled by lead vocalist Ra McGuire.
I’m not sure if Frank’s brief emergence as a sometime lead vocalist created friction. He continued with Trooper for awhile. But then joined Ironhorse. A band helmed by Trooper’s former producer Randy Bachman, Ironhorse utilized Frank’s expressive voice for the lead single on their second album, What’s Your Hurry Darlin’. It was a song written by Randy and Beach Boy Carl Wilson. And charted on Billboard.
Ironhorse’s lineup was then tweaked to include Randy’s former BTO partner Fred Turner. The band changed names to Union. When it fizzled out, Frank became a high school music teacher. From Crosstown Bus, to Trooper, Ironhorse and Union, he improved every band he was in.
