More changes at News1130

Postby kal » Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:47 am

Ria Renouf has announced via her Twitter feed that she is joining News1130 come January, as part of the afternoon drive team. It isn't clear which current host she might be replacing.

Renouf was a prominent anchor at CKNW, mostly during the Jon McComb show but left about a year ago to run communications for the SPCA.

News1130 has had a number of prominent hires since Charmaine de Silva left CKNW to join News1130 as news director.

See the Renouf Twitter stream for more. http://twitter.com/riarenouf

Translation to "News1130 has hired a number of Charmaine de Silva's friends since she left CKNW."

Wonder why she flamed out at the SPCA.

Rumour has it that she tired of being paid in dog biscuits, with a health plan that only covered spaying and neutering.

Understandably lots of quips about Ria's short tenure at the SPCA. Mine would be: she came to care deeply for abused canines after witnessing the disintegration of the longtime Top Dog news department at CKNW.

Another reason for her return to broadcasting might be that most SPCAs have executive directors able to talk authoritatively to media. That would leave other PR staffers to write press releases, handle incoming queries, set up special events and arrange tours. Probably decent pay but also boring routine after awhile.

Annual employee performance reviews go something like:
“Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? Are you a good boy? Yes you are”!
"You don't know man! I was in radio man! I've seen things you wouldn't believe!"

Looks like the News Director just brought in another one of her friends.

Indeed. Liza Yuzda is opening a News1130 legislative bureau in Victoria.
