One of the few times that Neil sang completely in key and with no pitchiness. Not surprisingly, Heart Of Gold was a career-defining chart topper.

Neil explained his subsequent grittier and less-than-perfectly-sung albums as being motivated by a desire to "head for the ditch" after succeeding in "the middle of the road."
