Sad to hear that JJ Richards has passed, in Rancho Mirage California.

He was a great news person and a wonderful fellow.

RIP, my friend. You were great.

Alway sad to hear of yet another passing. R.I.P. I never had to work with/for him but when we met at 1900 W4th he was a class act. I sure did like his on air sound. I forgot those years in Victoria. This business sure has lost alot of talent over the years.

A devoted News guy, family man and all 'round decent person, JJ could gather, write and read stories better than many.

Calm water ahead JJ.

Tom, thanks for the note on this. I did a little piece on the air.

J.J. was a great friend of Tom Mark and the two would go to lunch together. J.J. would pop by the 'JR newsroom (and, later, the 'WX newsroom), and always had a wicked, clever quip. He was totally deserving of respect.

I met J.J. for the first time while covering the Indy races in Vancouver. A nice guy who was always willing to give advice.
Indy was where I also met Tom Mark and have had him as a good friend since.
This is what Tom put on his Twitter account @TomMarknews:
Tough to hear of the passing of my long time friend J.J. Richards this past weekend. Can't say enough how tremendous he was. Great newsman and writer and all round caring guy. CFUN was lucky to have him in the 80's & 90's. Variety Club work also special.

J.J. was a true gentleman and a good friend. At CFUN in the early 80's , he went out of his way to warn me what management was about to do . So when the axe fell, I was prepared. Good bye my friend. See you soon. Jim

JJ was definitely one of a kind.
He worked for CHUM in the decade before I did in much of the 60s.
I only got to work with him remotely in the 80s and 90s as I was the producer and co-anchor of the CHUM National Network Newscast along with Hal Anthony in Ottawa.
JJ always contributed a weekly editorial to the show.
He twice tried to hire me to work with him at CFUN but I chose to say in Toronto.
We'd have our battles over editorial but when I took over the National, I always tried to include voicers and wraps from all of our stations across the country.
He thought the second anchor for the show should be in Vancouver and I agreed, seeing I was in Toronto and Hal was in Ottawa but I never was able to sell the idea to Mr. Waters.
I loved JJ's voice, his integrity and his quick wit and we had great times when we got together at various National RTNDA Conventions.
I'm going to miss him greatly, last seeing and talking with him a few years ago at one of Red's RPM lunches.

This man was a legend.

Yet we get a handful of memories.

Sad,

Very.
