Happy 20th Anniversary News1130!

A look back at various radio stations

Happy 20th Anniversary News1130!

Postby Russ_Byth » Sun Feb 07, 2016 11:44 pm

Just wanted to wish everyone who has worked at News1130 over the past 20 years a Happy Anniversary.

It was 8am on Feb 8th, two decades ago that CKWX said goodbye to country music and made the switch to all news.
News Director Tom Mark, GM Chuck McCoy and PD Dale Buote were in charge of putting together the first team and as I recall given 5 years to make it work.
I guess it did.

It was an exciting time being a part of something brand new for western Canada and many of us, myself included, were flying by the seat of our pants with our new jobs and in some cases, technology. And we were LIVE 24/7.
There were still carts and tape editing and lots of paper to print and read the news from.

I was happy to be asked to be part of the team and spent the next 14 years working with a lot of great people.
Happy Anniversary! :partyguy:

News1130 has become a mainstay of Vancouver radio. Congratulations to all who made it happen, those who've worked there and to those working there today.

While working at KISS-FM, we all proudly watched News 1130 launch. Congratulations to everyone that has made this such a strong property.

Twenty years! It's hard to believe.
