Will Shaw Merge with Corus and then Rogers?

Postby jon » Wed Nov 25, 2015 2:16 pm

A report released this morning by TD suggests that Corus stock is so low that Shaw will be motivated to "buy" Corus and still eventually proceed with a merger with Rogers. Here are the relevant quotes:
On a fundamental basis, we see CJR.B [Corus] shares as undervalued, and at current price levels, we believe that Shaw is motivated to begin to "kick the tires" on a potential acquisition, given the potential synergies.

Regulatory hurdles should be minimal. Given that the key regulator (CRTC) already views Shaw and Corus as one entity owing to the common Shaw family control, we believe that any regulatory concessions would be marginal.

Shaw’s end-game is a merger with Rogers

At the same time, TD cut their 12-month target price prediction on Corus by $2, but still predicts 66.4% growth over the next year, when you add share price growth and its 11.8% dividend.

Merger between Shaw and Rogers will never happen because you'd have one company controlling the bulk of cable TV/Internet in the country. I would hope the regulators wouldn't allow that.

I don't see it being an issue as they don't compete for cable/internet anywhere. There's no loss of choice.

Media would be a mess, however.

How do you figure that? Rogers basically controls the East and Shaw has the West. If Rogers buys Shaw, they own it all.

No individual customer is impacted. They don't compete anywhere for cable/internet now -- that wouldn't change.

You are forgetting the radio ownership rules in all this.
One corpse can only own two AM and two FM licenses in a market.
In all the major markets, Rogers and Corus already are at the max or at best, in some, could aquire only one more AM and who wants those these days?

Very good point, Mike.

Haven't heard them talk about it lately, but back in the days of the Bell buying Astral, TD was predicting that the CRTC would allow 4 FMs per market per owner.

If the stock is low, would Corus not be buying up their own shares.

It's interesting how the greediest "btard" in corporate banking (TD bank) is predicting how (the greediest btard in broadcasting) will somehow takeover and buyout Corus,

How about if Royal Bank swallows up TD, then fires the whole f*cking lot of them and replaces all TD managers with TFW's from Syria !

How do you think the stock of RBC will do, then ! How about rebranding to: Welcome to Canada's favorite Terrorist bank, RBC TD can't trust !

I got a real chuckle about how Ottawans were pissed off, the other day, about tv announcers forced to read the news on CFRA.

Tell me, how many tv announcers will be reading the news on the new Shaw-Corus radio network.

I'm Chris Gailus and I'm Squire Barnes and THIS IS.... NW News, brought to by Canada's favorite terrorist bank "RBC- TD Can't Trust" LOL
