Summer or not, that's two straight books of NW trending up. Someone has to have a huge chub in the corner office of the Black Tower.

OK - one more time. 2+ numbers mean nothing as far as advertisers go and any company that buys based on these numbers is stupid.

As a side note - are people being buried with radios tuned into NW?
Houston, We're dealing with morons!.

From the same period last year NW is down a tenth although from two years ago they are up four tenths. The changes at NW are still ongoing and will be reflected just in time for Christmas. I wouldn't expect a lavish party. CFMI is up dramatically from the same time last year so there is something to celebrate in the Black Tower.

95.3 managed to go from a 7.2 to a 4.8. Cisl lost a third of its audience from this time last year so I guess in two more years they will turn off the transmitter.

NW hasn't really unravelled until the last month or so. This ratings period dates back to May and includes a lot of good bye shows and teachers strike topics which rates well with all the teachers off the job looking for a place to complain about the government.

The worst thing that can happen to NW right now is a settlement in the teachers strike which would mean their ineptness will really stand out when they will have to start digging up topics on their own.

It looks like QM retained the old Tara and Mike audience and grabbed a nice chunk of Nat & Drew's Virgin audience when they moved over to 103.5.

As for Z 95.3, maybe Newcap should look at moving LG's Classic Hits format to 95.3 (with an unrestricted license) and move Zed's Hot A/C to 104.3.

And what about 1040? Obviously it's the summer, but they're a half point lower overall than 2 years ago when Scotty was in the morning. They're just .3 above the Christian station from Lynden Washington. Maybe Pratt should find religion.

Numbers may be bad for 1040 but you'll hear usual spin, "we do well in our target".

Too much Sportstalk, for a small market>?
This ain't LA.

Think the Fall book will really tell the tale.

NewCap paid HOW much for these stations?

Assuming relevant demos tell the same stories as these numbers, I hate to think what Newcap senior management in the Maritimes thinks of the numbers of their first three Vancouver radio stations. Precious little comfort in the 104.3 LG improvement.

Though steady in Calgary, CBC Radio Two has really taken a beating in both Vancouver and Edmonton.

David Bray has published a couple of demos on his public site, along with some additional commentary:

Image

Vancouver: QMFM grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with a 10.7% share of hours tuned (up from 9.5% last time out). Taking the top spot for F25-54 was QMFM, posting a 12.9% share (up from 10.7% last time out). Rock 101 showed some nice gains and now holds the lead for M25-54 listeners, delivering an 11.7% share (up from 7.8%). Rock 101 is out in front for M18-34 with a 13.0% share of hrs. tuned followed closely by the FOX at 12.0%. When it comes to Females 18-34, The Beat takes top spot with an 18.9% (down from 23.2%).

Thanks for posting this. Very enlightening. CKNW has a bigger audience in the money demo's than the CBC. Rock 101 isn't that far off of QM/FM. I wouldn't want to own TSN 1040. High cost programming with little to show for it. Playing music is still the way to get the biggest audience for the least cost. CISL has fewer listeners than Praise 106. Plenty of money to be made for everyone. Joe and Jane Public still get their tunes from the radio despite all the hype about streaming services.

Have to agree. To decrease costs with these low ratings they will probably need to run more syndication which they do on 1410 (wonder if the 1410 bottom line looks better than 1040). The only problem with the sports syndication is that the American hosts are usually good but cover a lot of items the mainstream Canadian sports fan doesn't care about. TSN should probably get some of their hosts to do national syndication across Canada to make the syndication palatable.

Otherwise they will be relegated to the corner of Hastings and Granville with an old Team1040 mug asking for loose change.

I listen to 1040. If they replace the local hosts with syndicated programming from Toronto I'm outta there. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. However the numbers are deceiving because it's the one quarter where there's no hockey. It looks like the CBC AM audience is even older than NW's. The real dogs on the list are owned by the Newfies. Pass me a shot of screech.

This has been done before here and failed. TSN Radio is pretty much already a syndicated network, just with local hosts. With the guests jumping from TSN property to TSN property, you get the same product with it geared towards the local market.

You can hear Bob McKenzie on three stations a day, a few different times a week.

I like what ESPN and Fox Sports radio have to offer and if there's something on I don't want to listen to, I have my choice of music or other talk radio.
