50th Anniversary Today.

Postby Mike Cleaver » Sat Dec 24, 2011 12:44 pm

Today marks 50 years in broadcasting for me.
My first ever paid shift was Christmas Eve, 1961 at CKOV in Kelowna.
I gave a station id and weather forecast between 15 minute recorded Christmas shows between 6pm and 1am.
I also forgot to shut off the transmitter after sign off.
Earlier that year, I'd done a weekly high school news show, acted as go-for and remote set up and operator.
It's been one hell of a ride.
I still tell people I've never worked a day in my life.
That's the way it is when you love what you do.
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone who contributes and lurks on this board and Happy Holidays to those who celebrate in other ways.
Here's hoping the New Year will be great for all of us.

Happy 5-0 Mike!

A great career and a stack of impressive call letters along the way.

Congrats my friend.

Congratulations :unwrap: Mike 50 years - seems like yesterday

- CKOV - the Okanagan's first and best station. While others stood fast with MOR - OV broke into Rock and had a sound in the evenings that made you want to get involved in radio. Yes it was Greg Acres, DJ at OV while I was in Teen Town that inspired me to get inside a radio station.

My story is a lot like MIke's except that I started 9 years later and wrapped it up 10 years earlier. I thought 30 years was a pretty good run in this business but 50 is just outta the park!
Congratulations to a broadcaster I respect immensely.

Mike - congratulations - like Neumann Sennheiser - we came a bit later....I started in 67 and packed it in in 2011...

50 years! Amazing.

For those here that didn't have the pleasure of listening to my friend - you missed something special.

Merry Christmas, Mike.
