Looks like round 1 goes to Don and Joanne at XL-103. Big question is whether Lite 95-9 is shedding older listeners while retaining the younger target demos?

Any guesses on 97.7's future? Pretty steady decline since they shifted from 97-7 Calgary FM and dropped the country tunes from the playlist. Is Calgary going to get a version of Edmonton's UP or NOW from Rawlco?

Is KOOL FM holding ground enough to satisfy the new Bell media? Meanwhile, Virgin and AMP holding steady.

Going to be a tough time for The Fan 960 without the Flames making the playoffs and not having the Stampeders broadcast rights to give them some local evening programming.

Country 105 probably okay being the only new country player in town.

Very odd that they would have sold The Bounce and let their second FM license lapse in Edmonton, yet still hang on to a single FM station in Calgary.

This has got to be the first time ever that CJAY 92 has beaten Country 105 in the polls. Time to stop calling the city Cowtown?

CJAY often beat Country 105, and everyone else during their heyday in the early and mid 90's, I believe.

Interesting that none of the multi-station, corporate chains can take their "Brands" to a dominant position. Perhaps a universal sameness of all stations might be a factor.

Cudos, though, to XL. I recall sitting in with the GM and PD a few years back when they were still that milquetoast, easy-listening mess and saying "Here's your format!"

Equally of interest is that while QR-77 looks like a stone-cold, Steve Austin Killer, they haven't budged from their (now traditional) share of 9-10 for over 20 years. I'm sure, however, it's enough to make a nice living.

Yup...it's what I've been saying for a while now....big corporate 'brands' do not work the way they think it does. XL103 is a great example of a classic local brand re-surfaced and look at their numbers. What does that tell you? Sometimes old forgotten recipes work.
