Wow! This is kind of "Reverse Cancon". The Paul Nicholas version sounds a lot more like cancon than the far superior Mighty Pope's take of the song. Mighty Pope's offering is much more soulful and the production better. A rare example of the cancon version that is better than the original. Heaven on the Second Floor peaked at #6 in the US and #1 in New Zealand for Paul Nicholas. In Canada his version reached #49, largely because The Mighty Pope received the bulk of the airplay and charted higher at #14.
Martin Steven's Love is in The Air would be another example of the cancon version outperforming the original, chart wise and on air. John Paul Young's Love is in The Air was a hit everywhere but much less in Canada since Steven's was more popular.
