Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1978 .. It's Lisa Dal Bello and the disco flavoured "Pretty Girls" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Pretty Girls was covered by Melissa Manchester, becoming her seventh biggest hit. It peaked at #39 on Billboard in late 1979.

Lisa’s original version did well in Canada upon its 1978 release. It was redemption for Lisa. She had won Most Promising Female Vocalist Juno for her 1977 self-titled debut album. It was produced in Toronto by David Foster. To celebrate, MCA Records dropped Dal Bello from the roster.

Financing emerged for Lisa to record the Pretty Girls album in Los Angeles. Assorted members of Toto were sessionists and/or support vocalists. Still a few years from joining Chicago, Bill Champlin harmonized with Lisa on Pretty Girls. The resulting album was on the Talisman imprint and distributed by London Records in Canada. And independently released in the U.S.

Lisa's version has a happier and sexier sound than Melissa's version. I liked Melissa Manchester but Delbello's take of this was better, and she wrote it. Hey A/C radio ever play it anymore?
