Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Murray McLauchlan, much like Valdy, is a distinctive folk-pop singer who could never crack the U.S. market like Bruce Cockburn, let alone Gordon Lightfoot. For many years, Murray and Bruce released on the same label, True North and shared management.

In my estimation, Murray deserved his big brother reak with Whispering Rain. Released in 1978, the title song was superb as were several other tracks. The esteemed Jordanires even contributed harmonies. Alas, alack, the music gods continued to rebuff Murray's best efforts to flourish stateside.

A year later, Murray issued a live album, recorded at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. And then 1980's Into A Mystery which yielded the catchy walking-blues number, Try Walkin' Away.

Murray married veejay (later record company and broadcast executive) Denise Donlon. They have a family. Recent years have seen him team with Ian Thomas, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church. Called Lunch at Allen's, it's formatted for each artist to sing a few of their own songs and then support the others on their spotlight turns.
