There must have been some truly appalling evidence of the "disappearing" of dissidents and other human rights abuses when Bruce visited Central American banana republics about a year before Rocket Launcher bowed. Not a stretch to say it would take a lot to motivate Bruce to pen and sing such a call-to-arms classic.
From his debut solo album to 1984's Stealing Fire, Christian spirituality has long infused Cockburn's work. But he put aside turn-the-other-cheek sentiments for this one. And I'm forever glad he did.
