A flash of brilliance in pop song writing that went to studio before being completely fleshed-out and then, sadly, fell under the control of an unimaginative and under-equipped production team.
It jumps from from a heartbreakingly sweet and too short verse lyric to a crescendo chorus that arrives far too soon, stays too long and never returns. The fuzz guitar doesn't really fit either.
Sorry for the armchair quarterback criticism, but this one has always bothered me as being a waste of a great opportunity.
In the right hands, say someone with the vision of a Brian Wilson, this could have been a number one and a classic for the ages.
