She took a lot of heat from faux-intellectual nit-pickers like myself who (quite correctly) criticize that very little, if anything, cited in the lyrics is actual irony.
Mostly, the examples run from simple coincidence: "An old man turned ninety-eight/He won the lottery and died the next day."
..to just plain bad-timing: "It's a free ride when you've already paid."
"You don't know man! I was in radio man! I've seen things you wouldn't believe!"
