In 1959, Chez Helene debuted at 2:00 p.m. on CBC Television. Although it aired on the English network, it was predominantly in French, to introduce children to the French language. It was soon paired with The Friendly Giant weekday mornings at 10:45 a.m., as both programs were only 15 minutes long. It was canceled in 1973.

In 1972, CKGY-AM Red Deer was licensed by the CRTC on 1170 KHz with 10,000 watts day and 5000 watts at night. The station signed on the next year, August 1st. The station moved to FM, on 95.5 MHz with 100,000 watts, on May 1, 2001. NewCap purchased the station, and CIZZ-FM, in 2005.



In 1994, CKEK Cranbrook was granted an FM license. The station signed on a year later as CKKR-FM on 104.7 MHz with 1264 watts. The station gained a 15 watt repeater in Fernie on 92.7 MHz in 2004.

In 2000, Alden Diehl passed away at age 69, and was inducted into the CAB Broadcast Hall of Fame the next year. He was born in Cypress Hills, Manitoba and began his broadcast career as Assistant Librarian at CJCA Edmonton in 1951, but soon was writing complete comedy shows for the station, as well as freelance writing. He moved to CKBI Prince Albert, CFRA Ottawa, CKLW Windsor, CKY-AM and CITI-FM Winnipeg, and CKLG and CFOX-FM Vancouver where he retired in 1995 as VP and GM.
