In 1951, William J. (Billy) Browne passed away at the age of 55. He began his radio career in 1922, singing on CJCG Winnipeg, until the station closed down the next year. He spent the next five years at CKCK Regina, vacationing in Vancouver in 1928, but never returning to the Prairies. In the years that followed, he managed CKMO Vancouver for six years, and did Morning Drive at CJOR and CKWX until his death. Although not the largest record collection in North America, Billy reportedly had every hit record of the 1900s until the day he died.



In 1964, CKLG-FM Vancouver signed on "with easy listening, orchestra concerts along with movie and Broadway soundtrack recordings." (broadcasting-history.ca)



In 1979, CKMW-AM Winkler-Morden, Manitoba, was approved by the CRTC for 1530 KHz with 10,000 watts day and 1000 watts night. Winkler Mayor Henry Wiebe was one of the shareholders. The station moved to 1570 KHz in 1987 with 10,000 watts day and night. And to FM on 88.9 MHz with 100,000 watts in 2013, with the AM transmitter silenced at 10:00 a.m. on August 31, allowing border blaster XERF to again be heard in the Canadian Prairies.

In 2001, the CRTC approved CHUM's control of CKVU-TV Vancouver. Conditions were specified by the CRTC because CHUM already owned CIVI-TV Victoria.
