In 1915, Carl DeSuze was born. "New England's Alarm Clock" was heard on clear channel WBZ Boston from 1941 until 1985. He had no trouble adapting to the station's switch to Top 40, though it was a gradual process all the way into the early 1960s. Carl did Morning Drive until 1979, when he switched to mid-days and Dave Maynard took over mornings. Carl passed away April 29, 1998, at the age of 82.
In 2000, Zeke Manners passed away at the age of 89. He joined pioneer Rock station KFWB Los Angeles, moving to WINS New York in 1957, after composing the Andrews Sisters' hit "The Pennsylvania Polka" and leading a popular band called "The Beverly Hillbillies". The band, which inspired the TV show of the same name, had its own radio show at KMPC Los Angeles and several New York stations during the 1930s. His nickname was "The Jewish Hillbilly", but he was born Leo Ezekiel Mannes in San Francisco on October 10, 1911.
