In 1962, the CTV National News debuted. But not head-to-head with The National on CBC. Instead, CTV started out small with a 15 minute newscast at 10:30 p.m., hoping viewers would like an earlier viewing choice. It turned out to be no match for its Canadian and U.S. competitors, which aired U.S. Prime Time programming until 11:00 p.m. A year later, CTV National News moved to 11:00 p.m. and was extended to 20 minutes, including commercials.
In 1997, CHET-TV Chetwynd (B.C.) was licensed on Channel 55 with 100 watts, with a rebroadcast transmitter in Hasler Flats on Channel 33 with 5 watts. It took nearly three years before the station actually signed on. The station was owned by Chetwynd Communications Society, operator of CHET-FM.
