In 1984, Gordon Sinclair suffered a heart attack following his regular day's broadcast. He died two days later. Although best known to Canadians for his years at CFRB Toronto and on CBC-TV's Front Page Challenge, he was also well known in Montreal for fathering Gord Sinclair, Jr. who co-founded Pointe Claire's CFOX-1470 on March 15, 1960, with 1000 watts. During the late 1960s and early '70s, CFOX under Sinclair Jr.'s management was one of Canada's best Top 40 stations ever. DJ Charles P. Rodney Chandler broadcast his daily show from John & Yoko's hotel room, and can be heard playing coffee table on "Give Peace a Chance", which was recorded there. Gord Robson, also from CFOX, passed away in Edmonton in March 2008; Capital-FM's AM Drive's Rob Christie is also back in Edmonton, but got his start doing all nights at CFOX around 1970. And the late John Sykes moved from CFOX to CKVN (CFUN) just after they went "All News" in the summer of 1969.
Sinclair, Jr. sold his controlling interest in CFOX in 1972, and the station became All News CKO in 1977, abandoning the CFOX call letters, picked up by CKLG-FM Vancouver on January 6, 1979. The 1470 frequency went forever silent in 1989, and the license was revoked in 1990. In 2002, CHAD-FM was licensed to rebroadcast Chetwynd's CHET-FM, 100 km away, in Dawson Creek (B.C.) with 50 watts on 104.1 MHz. CHET was the first English language Class A Community Radio Station in Canada when it signed on at 5:00 a.m. on December 5, 1996. Studios were a former closet at Chetwynd Secondary School.
