In 1960, Radio-Canada's (CBC French) CBWFT-TV signed on in Winnipeg for the first time. Initially on Channel 6, it swapped with CBWT in 1964, ending up on Channel 3. On April 4, 1973, CBWFT began receiving Radio-Canada network programming from the Anik satellite.
In 2006, CFSL-AM (Golden West Broadcasting) was awarded an FM license for Weyburn (Saskatchewan). At 7 a.m. on September 19th, CKRC-FM "Magic 103.5" signed on with 100,000 watts, with a Classic Rock format. The CKRC call letters had been freed up in 1996 when the legendary Winnipeg station moved to FM with new call letters, CFWM-FM. The Winnipeg AM transmitter on 630 KHz signed off forever on September 11, 1996.
