In 1978, Grande Prairie's CJXX was denied a license by the CRTC, citing poor economic conditions in the region. One year and one week later, their next license application would be approved, on 1430KHz with 10,000 watts. Today, the station has moved to FM and is now owned by Jim Pattison.



In 1992, after 8 years on the air and 16 years on cable FM, UofA's CJSR-FM was granted a power increase from 44 to 900 watts, finally giving it a decent signal throughout most of Edmonton.

In 2004, CHUM agreed to acquire A-Channel owner Craig Media, which was in the middle of a financial crisis.
