In 1968, CJYR-970 in Edson (Alberta) first signed on, the beginning of a network in the area created by Yellowhead Broadcasting.

In 1973, CBWFT-TV in Winnipeg began receiving Radio-Canada (French language) network broadcasts from the Anik satellite.
In 1974, the Quebec government signed on TV transmitters in Montreal and Quebec City. The educational network was officially named Radio-Quebec (RQ) on Jan. 19, 1975.
In 1995, the CRTC approved a religious TV station in Lethbridge, CJIL-TV, which the founders claimed was the first of its kind in Canada.
