In 1987,
CKO-AM Montreal, formerly
CFOX Pointe Claire, was denied an AM to FM flip. But two years later, CKO was approved for a new AM frequency: 650 KHz, former 1-A clear channel owned by
WSM Nashville, home of The Grand Old Opry. But the change required a power decrease from 50,000 watts to 10,000 watts day and 2,500 watts night. The change never happened as the complete CKO network was shut down on November 10th of the same year.
In 2004,
CKCQ Quesnel was approved for an AM to FM flip. The station had been branded on AM as "Wild Country", relaunched on FM as "The Wolf" on October 4th at 8:00 a.m., combining Modern Country and Southern Rock, and rebroadcast into Williams Lake and 100 Mile House. CKCQ-FM was assigned 100.3 MHz with 1800 watts. The station was purchased by Vista the next year.
