In 1971, CanCon (Canadian Content) comes to Canadian radio for the first time. With some exceptions based on musical genre, all AM stations in Canada must play 30% Canadian music between 6:00 a.m. and midnight. It would be another few years before FM sees similar requirements.

In 2006, CKER-FM Edmonton was approved by the CRTC to move to 101.7 MHz from 101.9 MHz. The station had actually been operating on the new frequency since May of the previous year, under an interim authority, to eliminate interference with CISN-FM. The interference began when CKER moved to a new transmitter site in April 2005, built for CHDI-FM's signon that same month.
Also in 2006, CILB-FM Lac La Biche (Alberta) was licensed to Newcap, on 103.5 MHz with 1900 watts. "Big Dog FM" launched at 10:35 a.m. on December 7, 2007.
