In 1949, CKNW New Westminster moved into the Swanrite Building at 227 Columbia Street. Fire destroyed most of the broadcast facilities in 1954, but the station rebuilt them, and continued in the building until moving to McBride Boulevard in 1969, a much larger site necessitated by the upcoming launch of CFMI-FM.

In 1984, CFUN Vancouver repeated history by abandoning Top 40 for something lighter, this time as "Lite Rock, Less Talk". Their new format on September 18, 1967, had been titled "Sound of Music". An all-talk format began on March 27th, 1996.


In 1994, CFCN radio and television Calgary was part of the sale of Maclean-Hunter to Rogers that was approved on this day. 18 months later, Rogers sold CFCN-TV to Baton Broadcasting (CTV).

2003 saw four Alberta CRTC decisions for Newcap:

(1) CFCW-FM Camrose was newly licensed with 50,000 watts on 98.1 MHz, despite the fact that Newcap already had two FM stations in Edmonton, where Camrose-licensed CFCW-AM obtains most of its advertising revenue. Although the application proposed, and the test period aired, Classic Hits, the station signed on almost two years later as Big Earl, with a JACK-FM-influenced Contemporary Country format, to complement CFCW-AM's Traditional Country format. Two and a half months later, the format moved to CKRA-FM Edmonton, and the Classic Hits was back, as CAM-FM, in a format not unlike CKNG-FM Edmonton's JOE-FM format.


(2) CIXF-FM Brooks was licensed with 2200 watts on 101.1 MHz. Newcap already owned CIBQ-AM in Brooks. It took nearly two years before 101.1 The Fox signed on with a classic hits format.

(3) CJCM Grand Centre (Alberta) was authorized for an AM to FM flip, to 95.3 MHz with 100,000 watts. When the station signed on to FM at 11:00 a.m. on September 3, 2004, it was as CJXK-FM, with Newcap's K-Rock branding.

(4) CIYR Hinton was also approved to flip to FM, to 97.5 MHz with 1200 watts. On May 12, 2005, The Fox was launched, and the call letters were changed for most of the related stations: Hinton became CFXH.

In 2005, CJJC-FM Yorkton signed on to 100.5 MHz with 44.8 watts. Unlike the former CJJC-AM Langley, where the JC stood for owner Joe Chesney, this CJJC stood for Jesus Christ and the slogan was "100.5 the Rock". The station's commitment was to only air about 27 hours per week of "acquired religious programming". The majority of programming was to be Christian music.
