In 1954, CKNW-1320 increased power to 5000 watts, despite the financial losses of the Swanrite Building fire only six months earlier. The station had moved to 1320 from 1230 in 1949, increasing power from 250 to 1000 watts. Later that same year, the station had moved to the Swanrite Building at 227 Columbia Street in New Westminster.



In 2006, Sid Boyling passed away at the age of 92. Born in Moose Jaw, he was a volunteer when he signed on 10AB in 1931 as a non-commercial community radio station on 1200 KHz. 10AB signed off November 11, 1933, but was replaced by CHAB on December 17th of the same year, as a commercial station, with Sid one of the announcers hired Day One. In 1956, he became Station Manager for CHAB-TV. In 1969, he moved to cable, as VP/GM of Winnipeg Videon until he retired 10 years later.
