Is that it?

Veteran broadcaster Mike Cleaver is doing a series of interviews with long time west coast broadcasters. These interviews are a joint project between Mike Cleaver, BCRadioHistory.com and RadioWest.ca. New iinterviews are being added weekly.

No.
Laptop hard drive died after the last interview, holding it hostage.
It's an interview with Terry Bell and the hard drive seized as I was transferring the file to my editing machine.
The laptop was sent off for data recovery and should be back here in a week or two.
(The data recovery guy did this without charge so he did it when he wasn't busy.)
He has recovered everything on the drive and re-installed all the files on a new drive and will ship the laptop back to me asap.
That will allow me to edit the Bell interview and start scheduling others.

There wouldn't be a problem if you had used a proper tape recorder! :tail

There's a wonderful Terry Bell story (HI TEB!) about HIM and technology:

I was listening to CKNW one night 2 years ago. Terry was reading the 9pm newscast stretching things out to Sportstalk.

Three minutes in, Terry sounds very very surprised...

"The computer's froze up? It seems... the... computer's... frozen up", he says in his fairly God-like tone.

Dead air...dead air. More dead air!

Commercials save the day. Then promos to pad time. The expression in his voice when "technology" went sideways was priceless.

Wish I had it on tape!

(Unfortunately I was using Mike Cleaver's laptop to record that night, and)...
...LEFT PLACES I SHOULDA STAYED,
STAYED PLACES I SHOULDA LEFT...

I am fearful that becuse Mike wasn't in BC radio during Jack Kyle's hey day that he may have him too far down on the priority list. While I look forward to the Terry Bell feature I think Kyle would be a much more valuable 'get', for Jack's terrific contributions during his wide-ranging 50 year career.

Could I ask the like-minded among us to let Mr. Cleaver know how they feel? I know for a fact he's been given Kyle's contact information. I can't think of anyone left who could contribute as much about the early days. And because he's well into his 80's his recollections may not be available much longer.

(Of course, Mike could respond that Jack won't do it, but I haven't yet heard that.)

I have had some refusals (only 3 so far) and several emails that were not replied to.
If any others on this board have some suggestions of who should be next, I'd appreciate hearing them and receiving contact information as well.
Some of the older guys don't have or use email.
Others have been dealing with some personal events such as the death of a spouse or illness.
I'm still doing some work and scheduling sometimes can be a problem.
But things definitely will get underway again when the laptop arrives back here.

I'd think Jerry Landa would also be a priority. Not sure what his situation is at the moment, but I do know he was in hospital again recently.

Jerry is unique in that he is the only Vancouver jock that was working at CFUN when it switched top Top 40 and was also at CKLG when they
switched to Top 40 in 1964.

I'm sure he has some great stories of those days and the people involved.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I've had email communication with Jerry but that was before his hospitalization.
Hopefully, he'll be home soon and I can contact him again.
The last time I tried, his email box was full.

Not at all....you obviously can't take a joke. Mike Cleaver knows better than to ask a stumblebum for an interview. Now crawl back to your hole.

I guess he wants people who had some kind of influence on radio.

At least I did something, I put Neil Macrae on the right track. Wished I had his money today.
