The Font Will Kill You

Headline on the front page of this morning's Edmonton Journal reads:
"Staff scramble to find spaces after shelter for disabled burns"

Unfortunately, the font they chose, and too little spacing between letters, made it read:
"Staff scramble to find spaces after shelter for disabled bums"

Publishing, even of daily newspapers, used to go through more expensive proof-reading steps. But a fairly recent combination of newbie staff and streamlined processes have led to a lot of potentially embarrassing mistakes in print.
