CFMI Country

When CFMI signed on in 1970, it was supposedly based in Gastown and featured an uptown country format. Here's some of the Pepper Tanner jingles they used ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Was it another one of those "bait and switch" get the license deals or did they seriously think Vancouver was ready for an "uptown" country station? How long did did they spin Waylon and Willie on CFMI before they pulled the plug? Hopefully long enough to get their moneys worth out of the PT jingles.

My recollection is that CFMI's Country period was brief and in mono. They very quickly moved to a format intended to go head-to-head with CHQM AM & FM, in stereo, of course. I assume they were automated from Day One.
