The station has been on 4 different AM frequencies over the years. It started out on 1340, moved to 1420, then 1250 and finally, for the last quarter century, 650.

650 remains, to this day, a really good frequency. Original "owner" of the U.S. clear channel, WSM Nashville, home of the Grand Old Opry, remains the only continental U.S. station with anything but trivial amounts of power at night. Alaska and Hawaii both have major stations on 650, and Canada also has CISL Vancouver and a 5000 watt station in Gander, Newfoundland.

As I said recently in Today in History, my high school Chemistry teacher, Mr. Maxwell, worked with Bob Hosie to get the station on the air in 1951.
