These three month 2+ all week rolling averages are the only ones that the BBM publishes and allows others to publish. It got me wondering if, arithmetically, one can get any other meaningful numbers from these.
For example, how well is CFMG doing as Virgin? How do you weed out the Easy Rock and Christmas numbers to just give you the 5 weeks ending February 27th. Even that is not perfect, as Virgin hit the airwaves February 4th.
Here is what we do know: the last four monthly three month rolling averages. Starting with the latest, and working backwards, it is: 7.3, 7.4, 7.2 and 5.3.
If the goal is to figure out how well Virgin Edmonton did in its first month, the answer seems to be: about the same as Easy Rock. 0.1 less, to be exact.
If the goal is to predict next month's ratings number for Virgin Edmonton, using the wild assumption that listenership for Virgin Edmonton over the last month will be the same for the next month, which is a pretty bad assumption, then the number looks like 5.2, since next month's ratings are the first (since the 5.3 one published in early December) three month rolling average NOT to include the big bump from All Christmas music.
Did I get that right?
