Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Quite a tumble for QM. One of the PPM wearers must have gotten fired from their job at the dentist's office.

The last rating included QM's all Christmas programming, so that was responsible for a share or two.

True, though year to year QM is down more than a share point. Rock 101 had a good book...just in time for Bro Jake to leave. When is Kid Carson at Sonic going to earn his big salary?

If I were a pinhead consultant, I would tend to compare this book to the same time last yr book (Feb-May '13 vs Feb-May '12) to gauge a station's success or failure.

Under that formula, the big 3 gainers would be Rock 101 (+2.2), JR FM (+1.4) and NW (+1.1). The big 3 losers would be QM (-1.2 irregardless of Christmas FM), The Beat (-1.1) and The Fox (-1.0).

AND, if I were the consultant for JACK-FM I'd be worried about the flatline ratings they have year over year.

Other comments...an uptick on country music....REALLY? Despite all the bad raps they get NW gains a point vs 2012. And, granted they are bankrolled by us and not paid advertisers, both CBCs are holding their own.

But the numbers crunchers will provide a slightly different formula, telling their advertisers they're #1 in the key demographic of 25-34 female with a wooden leg, lisp and hearing impairment.

These diaries should be able to pick up when people are listening to other forms of music (i.e.: smartphones) as I'm sure many people choose to listen to their own mix without some stupid station I.D. coming on every 4 minutes reminding you what station you're listening to, nor getting that big-ass 5-8 minute commercial cluster before the next 60 mins of music (and it seems EVERY station plays that big-ass cluster at the SAME TIME)

I'd be worried if I were NW, considering they should have benefitted more from an election and an early Canuck exit. Watch for those numbers to resume their southward trend in upcoming books. 1410 is half a fart in the wind. Is CKPM a 0.0 or do they even pay into the system to draw numbers?

Is CKNW worried? If they are they sure aren't doing much. Apart from getting rid of Dan Russell and hiring Dave Pratt....what kind of positive steps have they taken in the last 5 years?

Wow, Shore 104 just above the all traffic station, yikes. The tweaking of 101 seems to be working. It will be interesting to see what happens with a new morning show. Speaking of which, not much of a change to Jack's numbers since L&W left. Kid Carson going in the wrong direction.

While I posted the following in the Calgary ratings thread, I suspect the equivalencies are in the Vancouver market, as well,

"It may be reasonable to presume that Don & Joann are, intuitively or as a force of habit, still attempting to appeal to the 18-34 female demo. Bad idea - given the tunes.
As to the rest of the market: Same players. Same approaches. Same philosophies. Same dogma. Same restrictions. Same results.
Radio has been - and still is, essentially, an incestuous circle-jerk.
(And for me anyway, that's a very troubling visual.)"

Very true. It's like there are no new ideas out there.

I don't get how a station like The Peak (which could and should sound "modern" ) can be happy to be so bland and devoid of any real personality or brand. Mountain FM in Squamish sounds hipper than they do.

Somebody a lot smarter than me said, "If you want to know what someone believes, instead of listening to what they say, pay attention to what they do - or don't do."

With that in mind, it is no stretch at all to speculate that the leadership of radio believes: "There is nothing new in radio and, if there is, we don't like it." :orclown:
