The Winnipeg Jets will have a new radio home, starting in the 2020-21 season.
Corus Radio has acquired the rights to broadcast Jets games on 680 CJOB through the 2026-27 season, grabbing the contract away from rival TSN1290.
Jets games have been broadcast on TSN1290 since the team moved to Winnipeg from Atlanta in 2011.
“It’s been a good day,” Global news director and CJOB station manager Brent Williamson said Monday.
“It’s a real exciting day for our staff. A lot people grew up listening to the Jets on CJOB so it’s a natural fit.”
The Jets were a fixture on CJOB during their first incarnation as a franchise, which ran from 1972 in the WHA, through the team joining the NHL in 1979, to the original franchise moving to Phoenix in 1996.
All pre-season, regular-season and playoff games will be simulcast on CJOB and on Power 97, an FM station also owned by Corus Radio.
CJOB also has the broadcast rights to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the Manitoba Moose of the AHL and the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL.
