Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall want’s to be a Voice Actor for Disney! http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatche ... -1.2567637 I’ve been a voice actor for over 20 years. Brad, if you want wish upon a star, here are the top 7 things you have to be good at first.
-This is the land of pretend. You have to make people believe what you’re saying is the truth, even though you might not believe it yourself.
-You have to be able to take direction and rejection.
-You have to pretend to someone you’re not.
-Some what like a lady of the evening you need a pimp, not a whole party. In Voice acting that’s called an Agent!
-To be a Voice Actor in Film you need a film industry, preferably close to where you live.
-It helps if you like Union’s. You might have to join one.
-Practise, Practise..Some characters you can practise…Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Dopy.
Brad have some fun. You’ve already nailed a few of these points. Hope to run into you at an audition someday.

Most people who fail to catch on as a voice actor in animation make the fatal assumption that the talent they have for imitating "existing" characters will catch the ear of casting directors and open doors.
Can you imagine how people there are out there trying to market their perfect version of Krusty the Clown??
You've heard the expression before; if it was easy, everybody would be getting rich doing it.
You'll need to come into a session with at least five new, unique, original voices in your ready-to-go arsenal and three more "safeties" in your hip pocket AND be able to switch back and fore between them on the fly AND do it all day long.
Remember too, that the majority of producers, writers and clients don't have a clue what they want to hear and are secretly hoping YOU will provide the solution.
If you can do all that, and prove yourself reliable and professional at all times, you'll be the first person on their speed-dial.

Mike Cleaver, you want to add anything?

Here in T.O., the V/O business for animated projects can be described thusly: The hours are long and grim, but the money sucks. There is no such thing as a "steady gig". There are no perks, no benefits, no pension and getting paid sometimes turns into a 30-60-90 days kinda thingie.

Working in government is that day-gig Brad needs to keep as long as he can.
Or.... he can do what bigbry does. And as soon as he reveals what that is, we might all profit. :towel:

Hey PAVE..you'll have to agree. You've all heard of "Doctors Without Borders" well for newbies to Voice Acting there should be "Studios Without Orders"!

You forgot "doxies," one of my favourite words for strumpets.
One of the fun games we used to play in the CHUM newsroom was to come up with a word and everyone would chime in with their favourite synonym.
Some were hilariously and deliciously naughty.
