Changes at Fab 94.3 in Winnipeg

Postby SteveLegault » Mon Jul 08, 2013 4:45 am

I notice this morning that instead of the canned newscasts (and sports) from CTV, they have Boyd Kozak doing news and sports. Boyd works for another station in the market, QX-104, which calls itself a Winnipeg station while actually based in Selkirk. But I digress.

The point being is that QX-104 is a Pattison station, so it appears the move by Fab, away from all things Bell, is now underway.

Could be an interesting few months

I noticed today that Fab has started to play some 80's. Could be the start of changes to come.

Canned newscasts, no interaction between personalities.

Not that it was any great shake in that department prior to the sale, but as ho-hum as it was, it's gotten worse.

Now that's they're competing against BOB rather than protecting it....

They still have AT 40 on (1971 today) but the lack of 60's and overload of 80';s in regular times is totally disappointing.

Earlier this morning, three Stones songs in less than 90 minutes. Honky Tonk Women, Angie and Satisfaction. That is totally bad rotation.

They seem to have really cut back on the number of songs they're playing ... I think I've heard Some Sing Some Dance by Pagliaro three times in the last three days.

I used to be able to have it on for hours, now an hour or two and it's time to change the dial.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Yep - the rotation on "Some Sing" has gone from 4x/week under Bell Media to 14x/week under no-name ownership and QX104's PD.

Does anyone happen to know what happened to Chris Brook? He was the p.d there, I believe but he also had something to do with 1290 TSN. Did he manage to stay with Bell?

I hope he lands on his feet. Truly nice guy

He's still with Bell as PD of TSN 1290.
