CKMW-FM Winkler MB testing on 88.9

Postby Shawndx » Fri May 24, 2013 6:24 pm

Just heard today May 24 2013 at 1745 Local time CKMW testing their new transmitter on 88.9 FM.

This will replace the old 1570 AM signal once it is up and running.

They are asking for reports if they are interferrring with any other stations. No info on when they will sign on given.

CKMW has been making it to the Lower Mainland tonight and last night despite the bad conditions of recent weeks, although it fades up and down. It'll be a shame to lose it to FM as its AM is the best indicator of conditions between here and Manitoba.

In my days in Vancouver, it was CBW-990 that I would check, despite being next door to CKNW. There were others, now on FM, like CKRC-630 and CKY-580.

CKMW is in (and out) again tonight but the noise level is still high. CBW is the next most easily heard Manitoban signal here but really suffers from having CKNW so close; in fact, I think I hear something on 990 tonight but I can't be sure because of the splatter. CKMW is clear and I can listen to the music when it fades in.

Try for CKLQ 880 in Brandon, Toomas. They are a frequent visitor in Aldergrove.

I heard CKLQ for the first time in April 2012, heard it in a mix of stations fading in and out. I'm glad to hear it's a regular. Late last night the channel was being shared by CHQT and KIXI.

I haven't heard KRVN 880 since 1994. That's one I'd like to hear again.

They are now saying JUNE 12 will be the sign on day so it should be around September 12 that the 1570 goes dark.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Maybe you'll finally get to hear the original home of the Wolfman, XERF-1570.

Wait a minute. Come to think of it, so will I. Here in Edmonton, CKMW dominates 1570.
