Volunteer host torches station

Postby skyvalleyradio » Tue Jan 29, 2008 2:05 pm

From today's AllAccess.com:

"Police: KOOP Volunteer Torched Station In Music Dispute
Volunteer Set Fire"

The arson that damaged the studios of noncommercial Variety KOOP/AUSTIN and put the station off the air in JANUARY was allegedly set by a station volunteer who was angry that his playlist for an overnight show was changed.

PAUL WEBSTER FEINSTEIN faces second degree felony arson for the fire, which caused $300,000 worth of damages, and could get up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the incident. Police say FEINSTEIN quit the station five days before the incident, then came back to set the station on fire.

This story is funny in one way and tragic in another. It shows someone that took what they did, to seriously, and it will now cast a shadow on all the other volunteers who enjoy it.

I am glad no one was hurt - but I think every jock who has ever pulled a real radio shift would cheerfully burn a lot of the playlists we were saddled with.

When I think of all the crap that we played.....*especially Can/con...it's a wonder that anyone listened at all.

We had an in-house incinerator at CJCA-CIRK-FM back in the late '70's early '80's.
A lot of crap committed to vinyl went up in smoke in that sucker!

Mike, I'll bet it was more than 30% Cancon, too.
