Popular Anchor in Broadcasting Gaffe
Um Ki-young, the anchor of MBC’s ‘News Desk.’
Um Ki-young, a popular anchor on MBC’s “News Desk”, caused a stir by smiling in the middle of a report about the Korean hostages in Afghanistan on Thursday.
The anchor smiled and leaned back in his chair while interviewing an official with the Korean Foundation for World Aid. The screen was divided, one section focused on the anchor and the other on the official.
Um apparently thought he could not be seen. After the program, the anchor apologized to viewers, many of whom left angry messages on the show’s bulletin board.

This didn't hurt Mark Kelly's career after he was shown doing the same thing while covering Swiss Air 111.
Although, to be fair most people were likely recovering from Gloria's string of clangers to have noticed.
