Canadian Press reported earlier this week that "The Nations Music Station" the former MuchMusic has dropped six hours of daily music programming. The station will program only one hour of music video programming with the Much Retro Lunch broadcast daily Monday to Friday.

The six hours of music programming had run early morning, and was pulling in an average of less than 4,000 viewers. Much will still be providing original content for their Much Studios network which apparently has over 9 million subscribers on Youtube. Much's twitter account has about 1 million followers.

The iheart MMVA awards will still continue and Much is also airing the CTV music reality competition The Launch. A few weeks ago Groupe V Media announced that Musique Plus, the french language video channel and former sister station to MuchMusic would be closing down the end of August. A yet to be announced new channel will be launched which will cater to the francophone female consumer in Quebec and other parts of Canada.

MuchMusic, originally owned by the Chum Group was launched in August of 1984 and was one of Canada's original specialty channels. At it's peak the MuchMusic brand and programming was available in Finland and Czechoslovakia, throughout Latin America including Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil. MuchUSA network was launched in 1994 and was later sold and renamed as Fuse in 2003.

Music videos are still available on satellite and cable across Canada with the various Stingray video music channels.
