CHAH-580 Edmonton is Testing

Postby jon » Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:31 am

Since yesterday morning, and perhaps earlier, CHAH-580 Edmonton has been testing.

Currently, they seem to be experiencing transmitter problems, as they are on the air for half a second, then off the air for 5 or more seconds, in a cycle like that.

At first I thought it was a problem with the audio feed, but just checked a radio with a signal strength meter, and there is no Open Carrier between the audio bursts.

Being run by the people who do the ethnic programming on CKJR-1440 Wetaskiwin weeknights at 6pm.

They originally were going to take over the CKUA-580 transmitter site, but Beaumont expanded, and got close enough that the landowners knew their land could become housing in a few years, so they refused to sign a deal for the new station. Today's test is coming from the CBX-740 transmitter site, where CHAH-580 is co-hosting on some or all of the CBX towers.

They were off the air completely for several hours, but their transmitter appears to be functioning properly now.

Announcements in English and a South Asian language, and South Asian music.
