From the RadioWest aircheck archives -

Our salute to the 100th anniversary of 960 CFAC Radio in Calgary continues.

This time with Mother Ingram's boy, Robin (from Bellevue, Alberta), and his evening show on a Thursday night in early September 1982 -

Jeff Palmer has the news, he would go on to sister station 1130 CKWX Vancouver eventually joining the West Vancouver police department as a constable. Jay Donald reports on the sports, before his time at 770 CHQR Calgary.

Robin joined CFAC in the early '70s from sister station 1220 CJOC Lethbridge.

As an added bonus we have a few examples of a series of on air salutes to communities around the listening area in "CFAC Country" voiced by Lorne Ball.

Lorne spent many years at CFAC Radio and Television before joining Golden West's 1280 CHRB High River as its founding program director and morning show host for the station's launch in 1977.

We are pleased to share a few of these salutes including Beiseker, Didsbury, Gem, Hanna, Nanton and Three Hills, Alberta.

This weekend's aircheck will be the last of our series of CFAC Calgary, from August/September 1982, and will feature Hod Pharis on the overnight show.

Your aircheck contributions are welcomed, too. PM me or e-mail radiowest@telus.net

Of particular interest, at this time, are airchecks of 1060 CFCN/CKMX Calgary as we've not been able share as much audio for its 100th anniversary. Maybe you have an aircheck of its shortwave service 6030 CFVP.

This year also saw a number of other radio station anniversaries.

40th anniversaries for the following Alberta FM stations -

Q107 Calgary (CFGQ formerly CKIK) 15 April 1982 launch

CISN Country 103.9 Edmonton 5 June 1982 launch

Chuck at 92.5 Edmonton (CKNG formerly CJAX) 11 August 1982 launch

Country 105 Calgary (CKRY) 9 July 1982 launch

And C-JAY 92 Calgary marked its 45th anniversary on June 1st.

July 1982 marked the launch of Medicine Hat's 1390 CJCY AM which became MY 96 FM (CFMY) in 1998.

Airchecks for any of the above would also be welcomed.

Thanks for visiting and listening.
