I distinctly remember listening to this show, although perhaps not the hour encompassed by the featured aircheck. It would have been Gerry's second ever CISL show, having debuted the prior afternoon. (Not sure why then-weekend morning man Rob Berridge and Gerry switch shifts on this particular day). Gerry was doing a couple of weekend fill-ins at the time for the vacationing Brad Edwards. When Brad moved into the roll of Red Robinson's producer, Gerry slid into weekend afternoons, and the rest is history. Gerry told me laughingly some years later how he was thrown in on an All Request Weekend no less, when at the time CISL was still using reel-to-reel tape to record the callers! I could detect a slight tension in Gerry's voice at times and a couple of minor technical glitches, but an overall stellar performance from the man who would refer to himself in later years on-air as Mr. Lonely. ;) The talk-up of The Beatles "Let It Be" is pure gold! Listening at the time as an almost nine-year-old, I had never before heard someone with such a distinctive voice and vocal range as Gerry O'day. Thanks for sharing, Albertaboy and Radiofan!
