1957 Aircheck of Brian

Postby radiofan » Sun Feb 04, 2007 3:40 pm

In 1957, a teenager named Brian "Frosty" Forst was breaking into the Vancouver market at CJOR 600. Here he is from September 14th, 1957 playing the songs of the day.

Included in the aircheck is an ad for Brown Bros Ford voiced by Bill Good Sr .. selling Edsels!

Enjoy!

Thanks to Jack "Top Dog" Bennest at BC Radio History for sharing this almost 50 year old piece of Vancouver Radio history.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

You can tell it's him, but just barely. A lot of intro and extro stuff, he hadn't
gotten to the "personality" mode he grew into at Mcbride. Very cool to hear.
Kinda like listening to the "Quarrymen", and hearing the raw promise there.

I agree with Lee. It's obvious people saw talent in Brian but the seasoning came
at CFUN I believe. It was his father that said... Brian get a job at NW and forget
the thought of going to USA/Hawaii etc like others did at that time.

I just got word there is a better version of the Frosty
tape with the speed and replay a bit better.

That will take time to get it up here but it will be done over time.

Have to say I worked with Frosty off and on for oh, 6-7 years, and maybe
partly because he knew my Dad, he was always great with me, on and off the air. Same with Rick. I think about the late Rick Honey pretty regularly.
I miss the man, not alone in that for sure.

I also love the commercial with Rocky the Great Northern goat.

"It's great great great to GO Great Northern
In a Great Northern Great Dome Car."

Love it.

Not only was radio great in those days, trains were too!
