Canadian Pay Radio Doldrums?

Haven't heard much about pay radio in Canada since its debut. I think if they were having even a modicum of success they'd be shouting it from the rooftops but the silence has been deafening. Putting Stern on was the first sign of desperation. "To hell with sucking up to the regulators we need to kick start this mother!" Comparisons are made by the sat guys to the early days of cable tv but there is one huge difference. Cable had compelling, unique content that appealed to the masses from the very beginning and even with that it took them decades to achieve mass penetration. Where is satellite radios CNN, HBO and ESPN? A couple hours a week of celebrities spinning obscure tunes isn't going to get most people to add another bill to their monthly stack.
Content that people are willing to pay for is a pretty tall order these days. Just ask newspaper publishers.
