Huge layoffs in UK radio

Postby CubbyCam » Sun Mar 03, 2019 4:03 pm

Haven't seen any mention of this on Radio West... but it's a scary story... and I'm sure will see dozens of UK radio types looking for jobs OUTSIDE of radio... https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/s ... ar-BBU6R9w

Practically, none of this should come as a surprise, especially given those accents!

This is pretty much what Newcap (now Stingray) has done with their group of small market stations across Alberta.

Anyone remember when these were profitable Mom & Pop operations that were fully staffed and were actually a part of the communities that they were licensed to serve?

Not only were they a local voice, they also served as a training ground for new broadcasters to learn their trade, develop personalities and prepare them for moves to larger markets.

It's happening everywhere and some people wonder why the level of professionalism has disappeared from major market and secondary market stations.

The whole situation totally revolves around $$$. All that matters is the shareholders. The listeners and the worker bees no longer matter. The bean counters rule.

As well, Rocky, corporate radio continues to attempt the exploitation of a lessening number of advertisers who are figuring out what a scam radio is becoming.
